Wanderlei Silva wrote a long text of thanks to André Dida because of the episode that occurred during the recording of the reactity show The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3. In the sixth chapter of the program, Wanderlei and the other coach, Chael Sonnen, they started fighting, exchanging punches until they were separated by team members. However, Dida, Silva's assistant coach, attacked Sonnen from behind, which caused controversy.

Even though the public's response was negative regarding the episode, Wanderlei showed solidarity with Dida and said he understood his friend's attitude. “We know that you [Dida] acted in the heat of emotion, without thinking, it was an instinct of defense”, wrote Wanderlei, in his account on Instagram. “The action was wrong, but with the right motivation to defend a brother. I thank you, André Dida, for your loyalty, as it would have been much easier to have done nothing”, continued the former PRIDE champion.

Wanderlei stated that he only started attacking because he could no longer take Sonnen's provocations. “People don't know what it was like to put up with that guy on TUF, teasing him every day. Only those who were there saw it. That was really when the cup overflowed,” he said.
However, in the end, Wanderlei apologized to the public for what happened. “Sorry, guys, for the bad impression you made”, he concluded.

We've known each other since we were 12 years old, I was like the older brother and we've been through a lot of situations together. We really bonded after you became one of my trainers and we've been fighting together ever since! People don't know what it was like to put up with that guy on TUF, teasing him daily. Only those who were there saw it. That was really when the cup overflowed.”
“We are not in favor of any type of violence. This week I'm releasing a video so that people understand the context, not just the isolated fact, which after all was the guy who started the fight. I had already let it go, but he continued teasing. I would never leave you alone right now. I am with you always, André Dida. Sorry, guys, for the bad impression you made.”
