In the first duel between the two, Belfort won in less than a minute in the first UFC held on Brazilian soil, in 1998. After the duel, the Phenomenon remained in Ultimate for a few more years, had a discreet stint in Pride and became light heavyweight champion from the UFC. Wanderlei became one of the biggest stars in the history of the same Pride, being the organization's light heavyweight champion, in addition to winning the 2003 light heavyweight GP. A new duel between the two almost took place in 2012, but Belfort was injured and the two They never got their revenge.
