The suspension that received from the Nevada Athletic Commission (NSAC) didn't bother Chael Sonnen. The North American was suspended for an indefinite period for having been caught in the anti-doping test he took at the end of May, in preparation for the fight he would have against Wanderlei Silva on the 5nd of July.
The definitive punishment will be applied at a future hearing, the date of which has yet to be defined. However, Sonnen did not seem concerned about the case, as he highlighted that he is, in fact, retired from MMA.
“I'm retired, but there's a protocol that says they need to continue [with the process]. They will hold a hearing at which I must be present. I won't defend myself, but we will discuss the matter officially. This should happen within a month. I am definitely retired. As fighters, we tend to stay in the sport too long. It’s something seductive, but I stopped,” said Sonnen, on the “UFC Tonight” program, where he serves as a commentator and presenter.
Last Tuesday (17), the NSAC discussed both the case of Sonnen and Wanderlei, who also committed an irregularity regarding the anti-doping test. The definitive punishment that will be given to the Brazilian will also be disclosed at a future hearing.
