Sonnen receives temporary suspension after episode involving doping

Case involving North American will be evaluated again at a future NSAC hearing, the date of which has yet to be defined

Chael Sonnen received a temporary punishment for being caught with two banned substances in a drug test at the beginning of the month. The measure was taken during a hearing held by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), this Tuesday (17).

The matter was discussed briefly at the meeting. It was decided that a definitive suspension will be defined at a future hearing, with a date yet to be announced. Until then, the North American is prohibited from competing under the NSAC seal.

A surprise anti-doping test carried out on Sonnen at the end of May found the presence of anastrozole and clomiphene, substances banned by WADA, the world anti-doping agency. Given all the controversy surrounding the episode, the North American announced his retirement from MMA.
