Away from professional MMA competitions since 2017, Georges St-Pierre remains attentive to the main highlights of the UFC. Considered one of the company's best representatives of all time, the Canadian pointed out strategies that he could use in a possible confrontation against Kamaru Usman, current 'king' of the welterweight division (up to 77kg.). In an interview with James Lynch, the legend revealed what his game plan would be in the fight against the 'Nigerian Nightmare'.

“Usman has a style in which he is very good at trapping, putting the opponent against the bars. He can do everything, he is very experienced. His wrestling is very good. He presses against the bars and ‘warms up’ from there,” said GSP, pointing out what he considers Kamaru’s main feature.

Without shying away from his response, Georges then clarified how his style could nullify the Nigerian. The takedown game, for the Canadian, would be essential.

“My style was 'hit and run'. That was my game. My strategy would be to take him down and impose a lot of activity. If I were to face him, I would try to leave him on his back, because I have never seen him fight in this situation. When someone seems stronger than everyone else, there is a scenario where you need to attack. There are times when all that strength becomes a weakness. No one knows how he would defend himself from behind. No one could make him uncomfortable like that. (…) Would I be successful? We will never know. There wasn't an opponent that I couldn't take down. I took them all down, but these are different times. Fighters evolve. Usman is fantastic, the best today”, he concluded.

MMA legend, St-Pierre, is 41 years old today. The athlete has not fought since winning the middleweight title (up to 83,9kg) in the UFC, in 2017, when he submitted Michael Bisping. The veteran shows no signs that he intends to resume his career.

Leader in the ranking of the best pound-for-pound in Ultimate, Usman has charted a successful trajectory as welterweight champion. Owner of the title since 2019, the Nigerian has accumulated four belt defenses, in addition to a record of 19 positive results in a row in mixed martial arts.
