UFC president, Dana White, declared that it is no longer part of the event's plans to schedule a duel between the Khabib Nurmagomedov e Tony Ferguson, due to the North American's demands: “El Cucuy” wants the same salary as his Russian rival to sign.

“Tony said he won't do this fight unless he gets paid the same amount that Khabib gets paid. Khabib has a different deal. Tony has a contract that he signed not too long ago. The thing is, I honor every contract, no matter what it is. I've had bad deals too”, commented Dana White to journalists present before UFC 207, in a statement obtained by the “Combate” channel website.
This leaves the door open for José Aldo. The featherweight champion has already stated that he tried to schedule a fight against Nurmagomedov, but that the athlete's father and coach preferred his son to have more time to prepare. Dana confirmed the Brazilian's words and said he was excited about the possibility of having Aldo in the lightweight division.
“Yes, Aldo asked Khabib. He wanted to face him, because Khabib is the man in that division. But Khabib's father didn't want him to fight, he wanted him to take some time to rest. I like this fight: Khabib x José Aldo, it would be fun. I'm in. We are trying to make a fight for the interim title,” she commented.
The idea of the interim lightweight title came about because of the break of the current linear champion, Conor McGregor. The Irishman announced that he will take a break from training to attend the birth of his first child and should only return at the end of 2017.
