This will be only the third – and last – Ultimate event on Brazilian soil in 2016 – Curitiba, in May, and Brasilia, in September, were the other host cities. Since 2012, this will be the year with the lowest number of shows in Brazil, only three in total. In 2013 and 2014, for example, the country hosted no less than 14 events (seven each year). Last year, the UFC arrived on Brazilian soil on five occasions, two more than in 2016. The reduced number of events is in line with the policy adopted by Giovani Decker, general director of the UFC in Brazil, which aims for less quantity and more quality.
