Looking to regain the old form that made him one of the main middleweights in the world, Paul Philo is the newest signing for the fifth edition of First Class Fight (FCF-5). The black belt will be in the main fight of the card against Marco Antonio Pezão, on October 23rd, at Ginásio Mauro Pinheiro, in São Paulo.
The former WEC middleweight champion will be the replacement for Glover Teixeira, who was previously scheduled for the last fight of the night, but signed with the Canadian event MFC and will not be able to perform in Brazil.
With 20 fights in his career, Paulão has only one defeat on his record, to Chael Sonnen at WEC-36, in October 2006. In his last fight, he faced Canadian Denis Kang at Impact FC, in Australia, but the expected fight ended in a draw after a very balanced confrontation.
“We had this commitment to sponsors and the public to promote a great fight between the best in the country. It didn't work for Glover, who went to Canada and proved to be one of the greats, so we spared no effort to close with Paulão, one of the toughest guys in MMA”, said Roberto Godoi, creator and organizer of FCF.
