However, the controversies did not end there. The Irishman wore an extravagant t-shirt at the press conference, which he said was “El Chapo” style, referring to Joaquín Guzmán, a recently captured Mexican drug lord. Moments after speaking to the press, McGregor reached out to Dos Anjos, in an attempt to reproduce the famous photo of El Chapo greeting actor Sean Penn. However, the Brazilian did not reciprocate and left the Irishman “in a vacuum”.
Dissatisfied, McGregor posted a photo montage on his Twitter account in which he appears “greeting” the drug dealer. In the caption, he wrote: “Keeping up with the Guzmans”, alluding to the reality show of socialites “Keeping up with the Kardashians".
Bragging aside, McGregor will try to make history in the UFC: on March 5th, the featherweight champion will move up a category in an attempt to unseat Rafael dos Anjos, owner of the lightweight belt. If he wins, the Irishman would become the first fighter to hold two belts at the same time in the UFC.
