The rib injury he took José Aldo of UFC 189 is the hot topic at the moment in the MMA world. AND Chael Sonnen, former Ultimate fighter and famous for his controversial statements, couldn't help but give his opinion on the case. The North American didn't let it go and harshly criticized the featherweight champion for once again leaving a title fight due to an injury.

Aldo was injured during training at the Nova União gym. A sparring partner of his, Alcides Nunes, landed a round kick on his rib, which caused a fracture. After days of stalemate, the UFC announced that the Brazilian was withdrawn from the fight he would have against Conor McGregor, is that Chad Mendes, his last opponent, would replace him.

“I don't think the UFC will be in a rush to put Aldo back in the Octagon. He's the champion, so for that reason, they're going to have to put him back. But he burned the event down five times. I can't imagine walking out of a fight, for whatever reason, and he did it five times. If I were in charge, I would have taken his belt”, said Sonnen, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”. “Plus, he’s the least attractive champion of all time. The numbers don't lie: he's the least attractive guy with the belt. He never got a bonus pay-per-view, because it never reached a minimum number”, he added.

Furthermore, Sonnen stated that Aldo should choose his training partners better, as, for him, there was a lack of caution in the move that caused the injury. “You need to have training partners you can trust. I could train with a guy who forgot his mouthguard and it wouldn't make a difference. I wouldn't pull your tooth out, ever. Accidents happen and this could have been an accident. But it was a round kick to the body, and that's very difficult to control. It's the same reason we don't throw elbows in training, as an elbow, even a slight one, can cut your opponent and cause them to get stitches. You don't do this to your training partner, but leave it to the punching bag. It baffles me to see this happen ten days before a title fight,” he said. “Conor did everything right, and José did everything wrong, as he always does,” he concluded.
