Despite being the champion and having already defeated the Canadian in the past, the North American is not the favorite at bookmakers in the United States. However, Lawler said he was calm and confident that he will surprise the predictions and retain the welterweight title.

"That's the way things are. Maybe people are seeing something that I don't see. Everyone has an opinion, but not all of them are good. I'm excited to show that I'm the best. That simple. It's not an additional incentive, but it will be another chapter in the story in which people don't believe me. I will prove everyone wrong again”, he said, in an interview with the website of the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.

Lawler and MacDonald faced each other for the first time in November 2013, at UFC 167. On that occasion, the American won by split decision. Since then, Lawler has had four fights, winning three, and MacDonald has had three, winning them all.
