Scheduled to face Nate Marquardt at UFC-109, the former WEC middleweight champion, Chael Sonnen, shot another fighter in his category, the Brazilian Anderson Silva. The American, speaking to MMA Weekly, spared no words against the Ultimate champion.
“He (Anderson) is kind of a fake guy,” Sonnen said. "I'm gonna tell you a secret, Anderson Silva speaks perfect English. It's just that he has such low respect for you and the rest of the media that he pretends not to talk. I had conversations with Anderson in perfect English. It's very annoying to listen to your manager (and interpreter Ed Soares). It’s as exciting to hear it as it is to watch the grass grow,” he added.
“It's quite ironic what all the media says about how great this guy is for reasons that are completely incomprehensible to me... That's an absolute myth. If Anderson had already signed to fight me (if he beats Nate Marquardt), which is highly unlikely, he would receive a verbal beating like you've never seen”, concluded Chael.
Quoted in Sonnen's statements, Anderson's manager, Ed Soares, immediately commented on the American's statements:
“I don't think anyone will pay attention to what he (Sonnen) has to say unless he talks about Anderson. Saying that Anderson is boring, or that Anderson is this or that is easy. What we really need to do is look back and see what Chael has done. In the last two years, he had some victories, but he said he didn't fight against Paulo Filho, however, if the judge hadn't stopped the fight, Paulão would have taken his arm to Brazil. And when he won the Paul Philo, it was 35-40 percent from a sick fighter and he just took the judges' decision. So he fought with Demian Maia and it was finished quickly and now he will face Nate Marquardt. I think Chael should be really focused on his fight against Nate, because I would put my money on Nate,” concluded Soares.
