Recent controversies involving Wanderlei Silva and the Nevada Athletic Commission will not scratch the legacy left by the Brazilian fighter. This is the opinion of Fabricio Werdum, next challenger for the UFC heavyweight belt and friend of Wanderlei.

According to Werdum, Wanderlei's history in the sport is much more significant than the recent controversies that mean the fighter does not know when he will be able to return to action.

“I think his reputation will be intact. He has already done a lot for the sport, things that helped in the evolution of the sport. He will always be remembered as a great champion”, commented Werdum, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”. “Silva did great things that helped the evolution of the sport. If he wants to retire, he will be able to go happily, as he has already earned a lot of money for his children and their future. But, if he wants to come back, I think he will always give us a good show. But he could hang up his gloves right now and he would be adored,” he continued.

Wanderlei's problems with the Nevada Commission began in May, when the Brazilian refused to provide samples for a surprise anti-doping test for his fight against Chael Sonnen at UFC 175 in July. So far it is not known when the Brazilian fighter will be able to return to action, as his case must still be judged by the entity.
