When Chael Sonnen left MMA just over a month ago, many people wondered what the legacy left by the North American would be in the sport. One of the big bets is precisely the main brand of the former middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger: trash talk (provocations, insults and challenges to rivals). Sonnen's pupil on TUF 17, the British Luke Barnatt honored his time with the coach on the reality show and opened fire on one of Chael's favorite targets: Wanderlei Silva, with whom he had an intense rivalry and starred in TUF Brasil 3.
“The name I’m looking for is Mr. Wanderlei Silva. He is around 40 years old. I'm young, it's a good fight for me. He's a legend of the sport, but I can knock him out in the first round. I think it will be devastating for him. It's redemption for the villains. Chael Sonnen He was my coach, we are very close, he goes through difficult times and struggles with Wanderlei Silva it was his main goal, so it became my main goal. I can beat Wanderlei for him, it will be great for me and that's what I want to do”, said Barnatt, in an interview with the website of the British newspaper “Daily Telegraph”.
Giving up his modesty and increasing the level of provocation towards Wand, Luke also said that the Brazilian is finished and promised a real spectacle if he faced him. “Wanderlei Silva is dead. People want to see new fighters like me. I'm the new one. That's why Wanderlei still fights, so guys like me can make their careers happen. He's there to be beaten by the younger ones. I want this fight, I'm ready to face big names like Wanderlei, he's a big name for a reason, but he's finished. If this fight happens, I promise a great show,” he concluded.
