The long-awaited fight between Wanderlei Silva e Chael Sonnen The date has already been set: it will be on May 31st, at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium, in São Paulo. However, the North American believes that, in the end, the fight will not happen, as he suspects that the Brazilian will invent an injury to escape the fight.

“This is the kind of thing where something seems suspicious to me. He's talking more than ever, saying that I better not get hurt. I never left a fight, ever. If I get injured or sick, I show up. I never complain or abandon a fight. What is he telling me he will claim he is hurt. Something seems strange to me and I don't know what it is, but there is something happening”, said Sonnen, in an interview reproduced by the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

However, despite the various criticisms he has made of Wanderlei, Sonnen recognized the Brazilian's qualities as a fighter. “I don't like him, but I'm not crazy in saying he's not a tough guy. Most of the time, he is a man of his word. I don’t remember the last time he left a fight or said he would do something he didn’t do,” he acknowledged.

Since arriving in the UFC for good, Wanderlei has withdrawn from just one fight due to injury. In 2010, he would face Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 116, but ended up suffering fractures to three ribs during training, being replaced by Chris Leben.
