UFC lightweight champion attends first WOCS of the year, held this Friday in Rio

With the presence of the UFC lightweight champion, the North American Anthony Pettis, Willian Viana and André Minobroca won the bantamweight (up to 61kg) and flyweight (up to 57kg) belts in the first edition of WOCS in 2014. Viana won the title after a medical interruption in the fight against Cyderlan Porco Loco, while Minobroca beat Jamilson Dadozinho by unanimous decision of the judges.

the american Anthony Pettis, was present at the 33rd edition of WOCS. During his visit to Brazil, accompanied by his coach Diego Moraes and his brother Sergio Pettis, he was thrilled with the fights and handed the prize to Sergio Curva, winner of the duel against Igor Benzininha. Pettis watched two fights and received a huge ovation from the public, he was very attentive.

Viana wins belt after deep cut to opponent's head 

The main fight of the night, between Cyderlan Porco Loco and Willian Viana, was marked by balance. Right at the beginning, Willian landed an incredible sequence of knees, almost taking his opponent to the ground. Porco Loco reacted, alternating good right blows, cornering Willian against the fence and taking him down, keeping the fight on the ground throughout the first round.

Viana started the second round better, and with good jabs he opened a deep cut on Cyderlan's head, causing the fight to be stopped. After analysis by the doctor, it was decided that the PRVT athlete would no longer be able to continue in the fight, and Willian Viana was declared the winner, winning the WOCS under-61kg belt.

“Unfortunately it ended that way, but I don't choose how I'm going to win and I'm very happy with the result regardless of how it was. I was after this belt for a long time and thank God I managed to win it and I dedicate it to all my students who are present here”, she said.

Minobroca beats Dadozinho and dedicates belt to deceased friend

The meeting between Jamilson Dadozinho and André Minobroca, valid for the flyweight belt, was surrounded by a lot of expectation. More experienced than his opponent, Dadozinho soon took the initiative. However, Minobroca defended himself well, prevented his opponent's takedowns and went forward, landing good punches. The Relma Combat athlete managed to hold off Dadozinho's momentum, and with a well-defined strategy throughout the fight, he was declared the winner by unanimous decision of the judges. Minobroca couldn't contain his emotion and cried a lot in the cage after the official announcement. Despite the defeat, Dadozinho was applauded by the public present.

“I'm very excited, I want to thank Relma a lot, even though you don't believe it, we have a lot of good fighters in our gym. I also wanted to dedicate this title to my friend Udson, who recently passed away, this belt is for him”, he said

In an exciting fight, Diego Braga erases Kell Fúria

In the best fight of the night, Diego Braga and Kell Fúria had an extremely balanced duel. Kell started better and with a high kick he almost took down Diego in the first minute. In the second round, Diego came back better and narrowly missed knocking out Kell. The BTT athlete felt tired and slowed down in the first round, giving Diego Braga the opportunity to take the fight to the ground and dominate the fight. In the last round, Braga applied a rare choke that knocked out Kell Fúria, ending the fight. The Team Nogueira athlete achieved his 22nd career victory.

Under 77kg: Sergio Curva (RFT) beat Igor Benzininha (GBCT) with a rear naked choke 2 minutes and 46 seconds into the first round

Under 77kg: Miguel Santana (CM System) beat Gabriel Manna (Baixinho Team) by technical knockout 2min and 12sec of the first round.

Under 66kg: Marcos Nenê (Baixinho Team) beat Carlos Lobo (TFT) by technical knockout at 1:11 of the first round
