The Bellator middleweight belt remains with Russian Alexander Shlemenko. Despite the champion's triumph, it was the challenger who started the dispute better. Ward combined good strikes in the stand-up fight with his takedown game to take the lead in the first round. But in the second round, Shlemenko's experience made the difference. After an attempted takedown by the North American, the Russian defended the attack well and landed a fair standing guillotine choke to emerge victorious.
