Chosen to train one of the reality show teams The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3, Chael Sonnen he was not concerned about possible threats from Brazilian fans during his stay in the country.
The American fighter gained the dislike of part of the public due to provocative statements before his fights against Anderson Silva, in which he attacked the then middleweight champion and other fighters in the country, such as the brothers Rodrigo and Rogério Nogueira.
In an interview with the MMA Weekly website, Sonnen acknowledged the seriousness of the threats, but ruled out being worried. “The threats are very real. Some attempts have been made, but that's the way it is. I will not live my life in fear. If you want to attack someone, I don't think I should be at the top of your list. But I don’t think about it much”, said the fighter, who will measure forces with Wanderlei Silva in the program.
For Sonnen, his goal on the program is to pass on his experience to fighters, regardless of their nationality. He showed no preference for training Brazilian or American fighters. “Either of the two would be fine for me, but I believe it will be a Brazilian program. That's what I'm waiting for, and it will be amazing. It’s a really tough tournament – the guys who get through it, regardless of whether they win or not, are ready to get into the UFC,” he noted.
“It’s very difficult, and I admire the guys who want to get into this environment. I will do my part, I will give my experience as much as I can without caring where the fighters are from”, concluded Sonnen, who already trained in the program in the 17th season, against the team of Jon Jones.
The next appointment Chael Sonnen in the UFC will be next Saturday, in Las Vegas, when he will face Rashad evans.
