Adesanya's coach rules out Jones and targets clash between Nigerian and Stipe Miocic for 2021

Eugene Bareman, one of those responsible for preparing the middleweight champion for his fights, says that Israel would have no problem acting as a heavyweight.

Although Israel adesanya e Jon Jones are constantly exchanging barbs on their social networks and suggesting a confrontation between them, the fight does not seem to please the Nigerian's coach, Eugene Bareman. For the coach, a clash against the current heavyweight champion (up to 120,2kg), Stipe Miocic, it would be better for Israel's career, who has an unbeaten record of 18 fights as a professional in MMA. Bareman spoke about the subject in an interview with 'Submission Radio'.

“(The next step) for him – and we’ve done this in every sport we’ve participated in – is to move up a category. And, believe me, if he has three or four more fights at middleweight, we will promote a fight against Stipe (Miocic). 100%,” said Eugene.

The coach, however, made a point of clarifying that his pupil will not have the appearance of a natural heavyweight. The Nigerian's body type would not allow the fighter to increase his muscle mass and perform at a high level, as he has shown in his recent commitments.

“He won’t weigh like a heavyweight. That would not be our advantage. He would never weigh like a heavyweight does. We would fight with our weight, which doesn't change much when he plays at middleweight (up to 83,9kg).

Bareman also commented on Adesanya's desire to face Jones in a superfight planned for 2021. However, the coach tried to minimize the chance of the confrontation taking place. For the coach, a fight against Miocic makes more sense and Israel would need to convince him for the duel against 'Bones' to happen.

“I make the decisions for his (Adesanya) fights. So, when 2021 arrives, he will have to convince me why I face Jon Jones. If I feel like we don't need it, then it won't happen. The decision is not Israel’s,” concluded Eugene.

While 2021 doesn't arrive, Adesanya is preparing to try to continue his journey as middleweight champion. The athlete has a fight scheduled against Yoel romero protocols for UFC 248, on March 7th. On that occasion, the Nigerian will make his first title defense since becoming the owner of the belt in October last year.

  1. Poor Israel talks a lot and shouldn't even defend the Cuban. It's another one who will be a little pious and lower his morale, wanting to make a name for himself as Jones, who doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. The Nigerian has had great fights so far. They are average opponents, except for the almost retired Anderson and half-assed Whitaker for the congronto. Lower the ball and you will have to eat from the plate of humility. I would break everything in a street fight.
