Shooto Brasil: Rafael Macapá dethrones Luan Danger and is the new flyweight champion

This Friday's event excited the audience present at the Upper Arena with a show of knockouts and submissions; Nova União athlete dominates and takes title in judges’ decision

Those who were present at the Upper Arena, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, for the 85th edition of Shooto Brasil were treated to an exciting night of MMA. With 12 fights on the card, the public saw this Friday, June 29th, challenger Rafael Macapá dethrone the then flyweight champion (up to 57kg) Luan Danger and become the new holder of the category's belt after dominating and winning in the unanimous decision of the judges. In the co-main event Rodrigo Monstro submitted Luiz Fabiano with a beautiful rear naked choke. The event also featured spectacular knockouts, many submissions and plenty of emotion.

The main fight of Shooto Brasil 85 pitted then-flyweight champion Luan Danger against challenger Rafael Macapá. With a show from both fans in the stands, what we saw was complete dominance by Macapá in the first round. After taking Luan's back at the beginning of the fight, he looked for the submission for all five minutes, but was unsuccessful. The second round remained favorable to the challenger, who once again controlled the fight with a sharp ground game. In the final round, Luan went for all or nothing, but the Amapá native took the fight to the ground again. Then it was just a matter of letting time pass. Unanimous victory for Rafael Macapá, the new Shooto Brasil flyweight champion.

In the co-main event of the night, more excitement. After taking a knockdown and almost being knocked out, Rodrigo Monstro managed to reverse the situation and ended up submitting Luiz Fabiano in the opening round with a rear naked choke. Also present at the 85th edition of Shooto was former strawweight champion Gilberto Cangaceiro. After a warm fight, he also managed to land a rear naked choke in the final round to beat Diney Souza by submission.

Who also won via gentle art was Wildemar Santos with a beautiful katagatame in the first round. In another duel that preceded the main events of the night, Aleandro Caetano and Carlos Eduardo Carlim had such a balanced fight that it ended in a draw.

Knockout show packs early fights

The fight between Kaique Modesto and Alexandre Cisne was another one that ended with a great outcome. After just over two minutes of fighting, Modesto landed a fatal right that sent Cisne to the canvas, already unconscious. Vinicius Salvador and Luiz Guerreiro had, without a doubt, the most exciting clash of the night. After fifteen minutes of a lot of striking and twists, it was better for Guerreiro, who won by unanimous decision.

The first finish of Shooto Brasil 85 came in the duel between Hebert Matagal and Ary Santos. After a balanced start, Hebert managed a fair rear naked choke in the second round to put an end to the fight. The only women's fight of the night between Thaiane Souza and Amanda Torres excited the audience at the Upper Arena. After a lot of balance during the three rounds, the best for Amanda, unanimous winner.

The event started in full swing. In the first three fights of the show, there were three knockouts, one of which was overwhelming. Silas Lima, Andrey Augusto and Lucas Sousa gave no chance to Daniel Siqueira, Diego Borges and Jaciel Lima, respectively. Lucas was the author of the most beautiful ending among the three after a beautiful high kick.
