Leko started the fight well, delivering kicks and punches to his opponent's body. At the end of the first round, the Brazilian managed two takedowns over the Russian, emerging with victory in the first stage.
In the second round, Yakovlev understood Alex's game and began to loosen up. At one point, Leko managed to put the fight on the ground, but the Russian managed to reverse the situation, placing his body on top of the Brazilian and landing good elbows against Alex's face.
At the end of the second stage, Leko became careless and left his neck exposed. The Russian took advantage of the situation to win the submission over the Brazilian.
This was the second defeat of Alex's career, which now has 22 fights, 20 wins and two losses. The Russian, however, can breathe in the UFC, as he has faced four defeats in the six contested for the organization. This, then, is the Russian's third victory in seven fights in Ultimate.
