Paulo Borrachinha minimizes Israel Adesanya's achievement: 'Fake belt'

Brazilian provokes Nigerian and insinuates that athlete is not the true champion of the category; the linear title of the middleweight division belongs to Australian Robert Whittaker

The middleweight fighter (up to 83,9kg.) Paulo borrachinha mocked the achievement of the Nigerian Israel adesanya after the result of the fight in UFC 236. The Brazilian made the announcement on his official Instagram account last Sunday (14), hours after the fight. Israel became the interim champion of the division after beating the North American Kelvin Gastelum by unanimous decision of the judges in an epic fight.

"Serious? Is this the interim (fake) champion? There is no doubt that this division was better”, commented the Brazilian, who also challenged Israel. “Enjoy it while you can, man. I really hope you win the real (linear) belt one day to face me. Note: I am not Gastelum”, concluded Borrachinha.

Despite the criticism pointed out by the Brazilian, the fight between Adesanya against Gastelum has everything to become one of the best shown by the company. The UFC president himself, Dana White, demonstrated his enthusiasm by revealing that the clash between the athletes was one of the most incredible he has ever seen.

A possible fight between Paulo and Israel, however, may not happen this year. According to the president of Ultimate, the next fight for the new interim champion will be for the linear belt, against the current title holder, Robert whittaker, who is out due to injury. The Australian hasn't fought in almost a year.

Israel, however, revealed at the press conference after the title fight that he will step away from the octagons for a while to rest, as he faced two tough fights in just over two months; the penultimate, against Anderson Silva, in February.

Paulo borrachinha, 27, is considered by many to be an athlete with the capacity to be champion of the category, he hasn't fought since September last year, when he beat the Jamaican Uriah Hall by knockout at UFC 226. The athlete, like Israel, has an undefeated record. In total, he has 12 fights and 11 knockouts.
