Court removes UFC from Pacaembu after request from residents

Pacaembu Stadium is banned from the UFC

The São Paulo edition of the UFC suffered a serious blow this weekend. The event, which was scheduled to take place on June 16th, most likely in Pacaembu, will no longer be held at the stadium. This is because Associação Viva Pacaembu obtained an injunction in court preventing the show from taking place.

The injunction is based on the Psiu law, which prevents events from being held in open spaces after 1 am. Now, the largest city in the country remains, Morumbi, which is visible on the outside, but has the issue of infrastructure as an obstacle, as it would be necessary to cover a large part of the lawn, where the octagon would be located, due to possible rain.

“The Viva Pacaembu movement obtained a court ruling guaranteeing that events at the stadium end by midnight and reach a maximum of 45 decibels. To give you an idea, I measured 60 decibels inside the mayor's office”, informs the municipality's sports secretary”, said Bebeto Haddad, São Paulo's municipal sports secretary, to Folha de São Paulo.

With the difficulty of holding the event in São Paulo, the fight program that will feature the expected rematches between Wanderlei Silva e Vitor belfort, and Anderson Silva against Chael Sonnen can be held in Rio de Janeiro.
