Chris Weidman was chosen to star in the rematch against Luke Rockhold in the co-main event of UFC 230, November 03 in Las Vegas. However, an injury took his rival out of the match with just two weeks to go. Quickly, Ultimate summoned Ronaldo Jacare to be the replacement for the North American. During open training on Wednesday (31) 'All-American' regretted his rival's departure, but assured that his opponent would not get in the way of his biggest objective: regaining the belt.

Weidman believes that the victory over Jacaré will be the ticket to being the next challenger for the middleweight title. Currently 'All-American' is third in the middleweight rankings.

“A title fight is the goal. Whoever can take me there is who I want to fight, and Jacaré does that. He’s my ticket to what I want,” Weidman admitted.

Chris stated that he is open to rescheduling the rematch with Rockhold in the future, but that should not happen if he beats Jacaré. In the first fight, Weidman was knocked out in the fourth round by Luke at UFC 194 and lost the middleweight title.

“As a competitor, I obviously want to make up for all my losses, but the goal for me is to win the world championship. I want to fight if you can take me there. If I can fight back and reach my goal, it will be just as good,” said Chris.

With a triumph at UFC 230, Weidman aims to fight the winner of the Robert whittaker e Kelvin Gastelum, or be a reserve for the duel. “If I win this fight, I will be the reserve in case Gastelum gets hurt, or I will fight the winner,” concluded the former champion.

PUBLICITY:

Weidman has 17 fights in his career, including 14 triumphs and three setbacks. In his last confrontation 'All-American' submitted Kelvin Gastelum in July last year in UFC Long Island.
