Antonio Carlos 'Shoe Face' would face Derek Brunson at UFC 227, on August 4th. Due to an injury to the North American's eye, the duel was cancelled. With the lack of response from the number 6 in the middleweight rankings, the Brazilian seems to have changed his focus and asked for a clash with his compatriot Paulo borrachinha, eighth in the division. The meeting would take place in the main fight of the UFC Sao Paulo, on the 22th of September.

The Brazilian fighter criticized the way the Ultimate ranking is organized, as he comes from five consecutive victories in 10 fights in the organization and is in 11th place. While, Borrachinha and Israel adesanya They had few fights in the UFC and are ranked better.
“The ranking, as it is being done, is really a very lowland thing. To what extent do these guys who judge the rankings understand (of MMA)? And you see Adesanya and Borrachinha, with three, four fights in the UFC, and I have more submissions than they have in the UFC. How are they in front of me? The ranking is not being respected, I don't know what people think. I have won five in a row, the second longest streak in the category, I only lose to the champion, and they are ranked higher than me”, he said.
Shoe Face stated that Ultimate still wants to reschedule the confrontation with Brunson in São Paulo, but the opponent does not respond to the challenge. According to the organization, the North American needs to be cleared by a doctor to confirm the fight. With that, the Brazilian awaits an answer from Ultimate about who his next opponent will be. The expectation is that feedback will come this week.
Antônio Carlos is coming off a submission victory over Tim Boetsch in April this year in Gladale. He has a record of 13 fights, with 10 victories, two defeats and one unsuccessful fight. The Brazilian debuted in the UFC after participating in and winning TUF Brasil 3 as a heavyweight in 2014.
