The month of June will not leave good memories for Rafael dos Anjos. The Brazilian, who lost the chance to win the interim welterweight belt (up to 77,1kg) after being overcome by Colby covington at UFC 225, held on the 9th. Furthermore, RDA suffered a serious injury during the duel. He was at risk of losing his ear due to a deep cut in the left cartilage.

Rafael needed surgery this week and posted the images on his Instagram account (see below). The fighter's wife, Cristiane Dos Anjos, told how the procedure went.
“We came back from a trip to Europe and Rafa had a sparring session with Michael Bisping and ended up blowing his ear off. From then on, every time she went to sparring she had to get a point. Two weeks before the fight against Colby, he cut his ear and needed three stitches. He already knew there was a risk of his ear opening during the fight, but the problem was that the cut was too big. He was scared, he thought his ear was going to fall off in the middle of the fight”, said the Brazilian's wife in a report by Evelyn Rodrigues.
Despite the injury scare, Rafael is recovering well and should return to training in four weeks. “It will take two weeks for the stitches to heal and at least six weeks without sparring, but in about four weeks he will be able to do some type of physical activity. Soon he will come back stronger than ever,” he concluded.
