Pre-candidate Marina Silva disdains UFC, but recognizes mistake

After hundreds of messages criticizing the statement about the UFC being a kind of 'fight without rules', the presidential candidate acknowledged the mistake

Pre-candidate for President of Brazil, Marina Silva was involved in a controversy this Thursday (13) with UFC fans. When trying to say that she would run a 'clean' campaign without lies, she ended up citing the UFC as a kind of 'fight without rules'.

“Election is not UFC. I'm not going to tell a lie about Ciro, Alckmin or Bolsonaro. I want to win by winning”, wrote Marina on her Twitter account.

The post generated an uproar from several fans and professionals linked to the sport. Black belt and commentator on the Combate channel, Kyra Gracie, responded to the REDE presidential candidate.

“It’s a shame you have this stereotypical view of MMA. Our sport has rules,” she wrote.

After thousands of messages with harsh criticism, Marina preferred to end the controversy and recognized that the 'use of the UFC metaphor' was not appropriate.

“The use of the UFC metaphor may have given the wrong meaning. That wasn't the goal. The UFC is a sport recognized for its high competitiveness and clear rules. In politics, the rules of the dispute are not always so clear.”
