Jose Aldo defends UFC belt in Brazil

Featherweight champion will face undefeated challenger at UFC 142, first event of 2012

The UFC has made the next defense of the champion's featherweight belt official Jose aldo. The Nova União athlete will face the American Chad Mendes No. UFC 142, on January 14, 2012. After facing the Canadian Mark hominick in Toronto and the American Kenny Florian in Houston, UFC 142 will mark Aldo's first time fighting at home for the UFC.

The event will be held again in Brazil, less than five months after the resounding success of the UFC 134, also called UFC Rio. There is still no definition of the location for the dispute, but it is speculated that the HSBC Arena, in Rio de Janeiro, will once again host the biggest MMA event in the world.

Mendes is undefeated in 11 professional fights and is coming off a victory over the Brazilian Rani Yaya at UFC 133, held in August. Aldo defended his belt for the last time at UFC 136, when he won Kenny Florian. The champion has 20 wins and just one defeat on his record. He hasn't fought in Brazil since 2007, when he beat Fabio Mello at Top Fighting Championships 3, also in Rio de Janeiro.
