The climb of Fabricio Werdum towards the top of the heavyweight belt stopped last Saturday (17), in the main fight of the UFC London. Before the Russian Alexander Volkov, the Brazilian felt the rhythm of the fight and ended up being knocked out in the fourth round. Despite the setback, which considerably removes the possibility of the fighter returning to compete for the category title, the gaucho assured that he has the determination to continue his journey in Ultimate.

“I would like to thank everyone who supported me, who sent me messages of support and who is by my side in this difficult time of defeat. I'm sad, but I keep my head up with the certainty that life is made up of mistakes and successes and that the most important thing about this journey is how we get up from a fall. I am lucky to have happiness and determination in my heart and to be surrounded by people who respect me and who give me the energy I need to continue my path of success. Thank you for your support and know that each one of you is very important to me,” wrote Werdum.

Fabricio Werdum, 40 years old, occupied third place in the UFC heavyweight rankings and was about to challenge for the category belt if he won Alexander Volkov. The Brazilian started the fight well and dominated the first two rounds, but the age difference – the Russian is 11 younger – and the sequence of three fights in five months weighed against the gaucho. He lost pace in the second half of the contest and ended up being knocked out in the fourth round.
