UFC confirms return to Japan in 2012

After returning to Brazil after a 13-year absence, the UFC scheduled a return to another country with a tradition in the sport for 2012. Japan will host, on February 26th, an edition of the biggest MMA event in the world. The show will be held at the Saitama Super Arena, the traditional stage for the extinct Pride duels, where more than 70 thousand people are expected to attend the event.

The announcement was made through a press conference, which took place this Tuesday morning (Brasília time), on Japanese soil. Although there are still no rumors about the fight program, names like: Yoshihiro Akiyama, Kid Yamamoto and Takanori Gomi, three of the biggest Japanese representatives in the organization, are almost certain to be present. In addition to them, stars who made history at Pride such as: Wanderlei Silva, Rodrigo Minotauro, Mirko Cro Cop and Quinton Rampage Jackson These are other highly speculated names.

This will be the second time that the UFC holds an event on Japanese soil, the first being after the purchase of Pride in 2007. In the first edition, held in 97, and called “UFC 15.5 – Ultimate Japan”, names such as: Kazushi Sakuraba, Vitor belfort, Randy Couture and Frank Shamrock were on the fight program.
