This time I couldn't Demian Maia defending Brazil's honor in front of a foreigner who provoked the fans. Colby covington managed to frustrate the jiu-jitsu black belt's plans and achieved the biggest victory of his career, dominating the Brazilian and achieving a unanimous decision, provoking the fans before, during and after the fight, as he had already done during the week and when weighing the UFC Sao Paulo. After the fight, “Chaos” provoked the fans again and left the octagon under a shower of bottles and glasses.

Demian's defeat interrupted a highly positive streak for Brazilian fighters on the main card. The four athletes who saw action before welterweight achieved victories: John Lineker won Marlon Vera, Thiago Marreta knocked out Jack hermansson, Francisco Massaranduba passed by Jim Miller, While Peter Munhoz finished Rob font.

THE FIGHT

PUBLICITY:

The first round started off on fire, with both exchanging blows at close range. Demian connected more punches to the side of Covington's face, while the American invested in low kicks. Both landed good blows and one of them opened the eyebrow of “Chaos”, who started laughing when he saw the blood running down the side of his face. Demian attempted the takedown twice, but Covington showed all his wrestling pedigree by avoiding the Brazilian's entrances.

Demian suffered from leg kicks and seemed to enter the second round out of gas. That was when Colby's youth began to take its toll – the American, despite his cut eyebrows, showed no signs of tiredness. Thus, the Brazilian began to despair in the takedowns, making Covington's job easier, who punished Maia with kicks to the leg and hard jabs and straight shots.

In the third round, Covington became even more aggressive, while Demian had trouble even sitting on the corner bench at halftime. The difference in physical preparation became even more notable, with the American dominating the actions again, and leaving Demian increasingly desperate. At the end of the fight, Covington finally agreed to stay in Demian's half guard, but the Brazilian no longer posed any danger. The American unleashed hard blows and left Maia's face full of blood.

At the opening of the main card, John Lineker returned to the Octagon with victory, overcoming Marlon Vera in the unanimous decision. Without fighting since December last year, John Lineker started slowly against Marlon Vera. Patiently, the Brazilian waited for his opponent to take the initiative before entering the fight once and for all, using his combinations of punches to the body and head, as well as powerful low kicks. In more than one moment, Vera was cornered and seemed to have felt the blows, but he continued to work hard.

In the second round, the two played a more patient game, with Lineker investing in takedown attempts, and Vera seeking to use the muay thai clinch. However, the repeated blows to the Ecuadorian's stomach made the difference and “Chito” started to lose gas and became more tired than the Brazilian. The third round saw another outing from Lineker, this time hunting Vera inside the Octagon, but failing to pull the trigger. In any case, excellent victory for the Brazilian, who is recovering from the setback suffered by the former champion TJ Dillashaw.

Then it was time to Thiago Marreta come into action. Before Jack hermansson, the Brazilian achieved his third knockout in a row and his seventh in the middleweight division. He is second in the division, tied with the champion Michael Bisping and the veteran Chris Leben, and behind Anderson Silva, which has eight. Aggressive from the start, Marreta knew how to bring his opponent to his game and settled the score literally in the last second of the first round, when he launched an impressive sequence of punches, which knocked Hermansson down.

In the third fight of the main card, Francisco Massaranduba achieved the biggest victory of his career by overcoming Him Miller in a unanimous decision, an upset. In the first round, Miller was more aggressive and, despite being taken down, he managed to take down the Brazilian later, spending much of the first five minutes on top.

In the break, massaranduba He knew how to follow the corner's advice and increased the volume of blows and began to stun Miller. Little by little, the Brazilian grew in the fight and fell on top, throwing elbows that almost knocked out the North American. In the third round, the Brazilian followed the same game plan, completing his return to victory after losing to Kevin Lee.

The Brazilian show continued with Peter Munhoz, which overcame a bad start against Rob font to finish him in the first round, with his favorite move, the guillotine. After suffering from the North American's tight boxing in the first few minutes, including a jab that hit his nose squarely, Munhoz stayed in the fight and started connecting blows. A punch landed squarely in the face of Font, who staggered and looked for a takedown. Pedro didn't forgive and used the guillotine, forcing his opponent to tap immediately.
