Even though the Brazilian night was positive in terms of UFC Sao Paulo, since nine of the 12 Brazilians involved in the event emerged winners, fans leave the Ibirapuera Gymnasium with a bitter taste in their mouths. This because Demian Maia e Lyoto Machida there were defeats in the two main fights of the show. After the welterweight was dominated by the loudmouth Colby covington in the co-main fight of the event, Lyoto Machida ended up being knocked out in the first round Derek Brunson.

It was Lyoto's first performance in two years, as the Brazilian had been suspended after ingesting a prohibited substance and, even though he informed USADA that he had taken a supplement that was not on the organization's list, he ended up being suspended for 18 months – he he hadn't fought for six months before the suspension.

After the duel, Brunson made a point of thanking the Brazilian people for their hospitality, unlike Covington, and also asked to face Luke Rockhold in your next fight.

“Hey, Daniel (Cormier, event interviewer and UFC light heavyweight champion), you have a great middleweight in your gym. Let's go, Luke Rockhold, let's face each other. I want this fight!” asked Brunson.

THE FIGHT

Despite the lack of rhythm, Lyoto started well, showing that his reflexes are up to date and even landed a hard right to Brunson's face. More patient, the North American waited for the right time to explode and, even then, he had trouble finding Lyoto.

However, Brunson, whose confidence was already high after his knockout over Dan Kelly in the middle of the year, waited for the right time to connect. Lyoto showed that his chin is not at the same level as his reflexes and fell. Brunson still landed a few more blows on the ground, causing the Brazilian's head to literally bounce off the octagon in strong scenes. It was just two and a half minutes of fight, enough to prove that Brunson is definitely one of the best middleweights in the world.
