The discussion between Brazilian Fabricio Werdum and the North American Tony Ferguson still generates controversy. During an event to promote UFC 216, fighters almost started a riot. In the middle of the fight, the gaucho called his rival 'maricon', a term considered homophobic in the LGBT community. The UFC did not give any negative repercussions and reprimanded the heavyweight.

Although Werdum apologized for the statement, the organization issued an official statement and demanded that the Brazilian provide services to the LGBT community to reduce the impact of his words.
