Shortly after the confirmation of the superfight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, which will take place on August 26th, many fans speculated whether the Irishman would return to MMA. Recently, the UFC champion dispelled doubts and assured that he will return to Ultimate to defend his lightweight title. And he also declared that he still considers himself the owner of the featherweight belt, which the UFC took from him due to inactivity.

“With 100% certainty (I still consider myself featherweight and lightweight champion). How can I not consider myself the UFC featherweight and lightweight champion? The current featherweight champion is Max Holloway, and I'm done with it. The previous one is José Aldo, which he lost in 13 seconds. I still reign in that division. Everyone knows I'm a multi-time UFC champion and I can't wait to continue my reign where I left off”, commented McGregor at a press conference.
McGregor also commented on speculation that Mayweather would move to MMA in the event of a loss to him. The Irishman admitted that he does not believe in this possibility, but reported that his North American rival would earn his respect if he sought an adventure in another sport, as he himself will do.
“On the tour, Floyd said he would accept to fight in the octagon with me (in a rematch). I also have several world titles to defend. If he did that, he would inherit my respect. Maybe he'll get in there, and after taking a beating he can come challenge me for my UFC lightweight belt. Right now, I’m focused on finishing him off,” he declared.
