Borrachinha debuted in the UFC this year after a solid career on the national scene and a lackluster stint on TUF Brasil. In his first fight with Ultimate, he knocked out Garreth McLellan in the first round of UFC Fortaleza, in March. Almost three months later, the Brazilian returned to the octagon, again at home, at UFC 212, in Rio de Janeiro. On that occasion, the middleweight beat Oluwale Bamgbose by knockout again, but in the second round.
The duel with Hendricks will be the first outside Brazil for Borrachinha, just 26 years old. The former champion, on the other hand, has much more experience. “Big Rigg” has been in the UFC since 2009 and won the welterweight title in 2014 after a victory over Robbie Lawler at UFC 171. A few months later, Hendricks lost the rematch to Lawler and the title. Since then he has had trouble making weight and was forced to move up to the middleweight division. After debuting in the new category with a victory over Hector Lombard, the American ended up being knocked out by Tim Boetsch in his last duel.
