Russian-born Irishman Artem Lobov was the first featherweight to challenge José Aldo, right after the Brazilian lost his category belt to Max Holloway, at UFC 212 last Saturday (3). Through his official Twitter, Artem Lobov made a point of warning that the Brazilian should no longer come close to his arch-rival, who knocked him out in 13 seconds at UFC 194, in December 2015.
“I don't want to kick you while you're down, but realistically speaking I'm the closest you'll get to Conor. Forget everything and let's fight! It will be an honor”, challenged Lobov.
Despite coming from a defeat to Cub swanson, the Russian-Irish was highly praised for his fierce performance against the North American. Considered a smooth knockout for Swanson, Lobov lasted five rounds of the main fight of the UFC Nashville April this year, and even bothered the opponent in just a few moments.
Artem entered the UFC through the 22nd season of The Ultimate Fighter, which had Conor McGregor e Urijah faber as technicians. Naturally, Lobov was on the Europe team, led by his friend, and reached the final, losing to Ryan Hall, from the North American team, whose coach was Faber.
