New UFC featherweight champion, Max Holloway surprised by paying emotional tribute to his predecessor, José Aldo. A few days after beating the Brazilian at UFC 212 last Saturday (3), the Hawaiian wrote a long text about the former champion's legacy and recalled details of Aldo's rise to the top, in addition to saying that his last opponent will be “forever ” a great inspiration to him.

Throughout the text, Holloway credits Aldo as the great creator of the UFC featherweight division and demanded that Brazilian fans also pay tribute to the former champion, who “came out of nowhere to be a king”.

“Losing is part of fighting. What happened on Saturday takes nothing away from his legacy. This is a guy who would sometimes show up at the gym without eating because he was so poor. This is a guy who built the featherweight division and became the king. This is a guy who found motivation to continue earning what he already had. He defended his throne. For a decade. For honor. For your team. For your compatriots. This is a guy who didn't start out on pole position in this world and look what he's achieved. Brazil needs to celebrate this man. Açaí with granola for everyone. He is the greatest of all time and his story will forever be an inspiration to me. Thank you, Ze. Thank you,” said Holloway.
