Former UFC featherweight champion, Conor McGregor, who currently holds the lightweight belt, had just seven fights at 66kg in Ultimate, having won all of them, the last against José Aldo, in December 2015, a triumph that earned him the division title. After winning, the Irishman, who did not defend his belt once, moved up in weight and became lightweight champion. However, although Conor's career in the category is short, Joe Rogan, UFC commentator, states that 'Notorious''s achievements leave him in a position to be considered the best featherweight of all time.

“People will fight this, but Conor McGregor He's the best (featherweight) of all time. This has to be admitted, even if he doesn't fight in the category again. And why is that? Because he knocked out the best of them all. The reality is that Aldo is the best in the world, but Conor knocked him out. I wouldn't be able to say that (that McGregor is the best of all time) if the fight with Aldo hadn't happened. Really, the Brazilian has more fights on his record, and there will always be an asterisk on Conor, because he didn't defend his belt in the division”, said Joe, on his “Fight Companion” podcast.

When the subject was the defeat of José Aldo for Max Holloway at UFC 212, last Saturday (03), Rogan says he wasn't surprised by the result. According to him, it is a natural exchange of batons that passes from generation to generation.

“Aldo is devastated. And that. A fight is like that, people win and lose. The sport ultimately depends on this type of fight. On one side there is a guy who is among the best of all time, which is Aldo, and on the other, a guy who has the solution for all attacks, which is what happened in Rio de Janeiro. He (Aldo) arrived with all his titles, put them on the line, did his best, but was surpassed by the new generation (…) Max Holloway hit him a lot (José Aldo). He beat him in a way no one else had ever done. McGregor won because he caught him “by surprise”. Max Holloway, no. He beat and defeated”, he concluded.
