Even though he suffered his last defeat to Conor McGregor, Max Holloway, the new UFC featherweight champion, does not intend to seek a rematch. After knocking out José Aldo at UFC 212 last Saturday (3), the Hawaiian assured that he will no longer be a fighter who will “beg” for a fight against the Irishman and that it is McGregor himself who should seek a duel with him.

“If he wants to go back to featherweight, he can fight me, he can come and beg me. But if he doesn't want to, that's it, no big deal. He was the champion in 2015. He can say whatever he wants and show his belt to whoever he wants, and no one can take that away from him, really. But we are in 2017. He was champion in 2015. Now, in 2017, I am the man, I am the champion”, commented Holloway after the duel with Aldo.
Although many champions seek fights in other divisions when they win the title, Holloway aims to be a featherweight version of names like Anderson Silva e Demetrious Johnson. “Blessed” has no plans to leave the 66 kg category.
“Guys like Demetrious Johnson they have that extra motivation to continue defending the title. This is special. I want to defend my throne, my fans know who I am, they love me for that. I want to be the champion and continue defending the title. I want people to try to take away my territory”, concluded the Hawaiian.
