Weidman eyes fight for middleweight belt after duel against Mousasi

Coming from two consecutive defeats, the former champion believes he can compete for the title after beating Mousasi

Without winning since May 2015, Chris Weidman He is not going through a good moment in his career, with two consecutive knockout defeats. Next week, however, he will have the opportunity to overcome his bad form against Gegard Mousasi at UFC 210, April 8, in Buffalo (USA). Former middleweight champion, the North American makes no secret of his desire to fight for the title again, and believes that this will be possible if he wins his next challenge.

“I go out there and dominate Mousasi, and they can't deny that. And I will be fighting for the belt again (…) My goal is to get the champion belt around my waist again. It's what I want more than anything (…). But you can't get there without taking one fight at a time. If I didn't think I could beat everyone in this division, I wouldn't be fighting. I feel like I'm the best fighter in the world, and I have a good guy in front of me to prove it”, declared the fighter, in a promotional video for the event that took place in the state of New York (USA).

Asked about the confrontation against Mousasi, Weidman assured that it is the ideal fight to guarantee his 'passport' for a new title fight.

“When we decided that we would fight Mousasi, we were very excited. It's a big struggle for me. He’s a tough guy, very experienced and is on a good winning streak, so I think this fight is the best fight to push me back into title contention,” he concluded.
