Bisping says he will face Romero if GSP doesn't want to fight in July

At the beginning of the month, the UFC announced that Michael Bisping would make his second title defense against the legend Georges St Pierre, with no set date yet. However, if it depends on the current middleweight champion (up to 84kg), the duel is not yet confirmed. Aiming to perform in the famous International Fight Week, the Englishman gave GSP an ultimatum, stating that he will only accept to face him if the confrontation takes place in July.

“It seems that Georges St-Pierre is trying to postpone our fight until after July 8th. I heard rumors just now that he was intending to face me in September or October – the UFC confirmed that story to me too. But I'll make one thing very clear: if GSP wants to wait until September or October, let him find another opponent, because I call the shots here. Not to sound like an asshole, but the belt is mine. I'm the champion and I don't intend to sit still until September or October. This fight was discussed in January, and you know the training camp lasts eight weeks. Or six weeks. Fighting in September or October is ridiculous. July 8th is the date. I may be a little flexible and willing to go a little further than this day if necessary. But I want to fight at International Fight Week on July 8th. So, Georges St-Pierre, have your way. Stop doing that shit gymnastics, stop doing backflips or whatever it is. Let's fight! Sign the papers. You want. You went to the press conference and spoke a lot. Sign the damn papers. It’s as simple as that”, declared Michael, in texts published on his social networks.

When commenting on which opponent could receive the chance to fight for the belt in place of the Canadian, Bisping did not hesitate: Yoel romero. According to him, the Cuban doesn't scare him.

“If he’s not ready, I think Yoel romero will receive a title shot. I'm not afraid of Yoel romero. If GSP wants to fight, then of course we have a big event there. This fight will generate a lot of money, but I don't want to sit around waiting. He's not the one who decides anything. I'm the champion. I'm not going to wait a year until Georges St-Pierre wants to face me. I can have two fights in this one-year period and win the same thing,” he concluded.
