The Brazilian Vitor belfort, who is expected to have his last MMA fight at UFC 212, at home, did not like the criticism of his idea of having a farewell fight against a weaker opponent. The former champion admitted to having thought about this possibility, but rejected asking for a lesser rival for the final fight of his career, which began 20 years ago, in 1997.
Through a long post on his Instagram, Vitor explained the logic behind his initial idea and blasted critics, especially the current owner of the middleweight belt, Michael Bisping. For the eternal Phenomenon, the Englishman is a “fake champion” and even called on his fans to support him in his farewell fight.
“(…) If you ask me if I would like an easy fight... If I would like an opponent who, at least theoretically, I could knock out more easily... I confess that it would be great! But that wouldn’t be ME… It wouldn’t be the height of my story or the legacy I want to leave for the next generations (…)”, says part of Belfort’s post, who also listed his latest opponents, as a way of proving that he doesn’t run away from challenges.
“I saw that the press said that I asked for an easier fight. That said, I would like to remind you of my last 10 fights: Anthony Johnson, Jon Jones, Bisping, Rockhold, Henderson, Weidman, Henderson, Jacaré, Mousasi and Gastelum. Just big names, champions and rising stars. The only easy fight I had was against the fake champion Michael Bisping (...) "
