Even though he is officially at middleweight (up to 84 kg.), with two victories in his last two fights, and close to facing Anderson Silva, Kelvin Gastelum sees its future in another division. The American revealed that he intends to return to the welterweight category (up to 77 kg.) soon.

Gastelum admitted that, in the short term, he should remain among the midfielders and that he intends to try for the division title, currently in possession of Michael Bisping. But he guarantees that he will try to get the welterweight belt anyway.

“I think about the 77 kg belt. I always think about that. But if he has to be middleweight champion first, so be it. I don't know what happens after this fight. Hopefully I'll be in a position where, winning from Anderson Silva, I can have options and, who knows, compete for the middleweight division title. But being true to myself, that might not happen, so we’ll see”, he commented, in an interview with the program “The MMA Hour”.

Gastelum began his journey in the UFC by winning the 17th season of The Ultimate Fighter at middleweight. Soon after, he dropped to 77 kg, where he had good results, but struggled to make weight. When not reaching the category limit against Donald Cerrone, before UFC 205, Kelvin was forced by Ultimate to officially move up to middleweight.
