“Actually, in October they offered and he said no. In December, when Velasquez left the fight, I said yes. I asked who was out and, seven days before the fight, I said yes. But he asked for a lot of money and said no. So, when Struve pulled out of the fight against me in February, they offered it to him and he said no. (laughter). I can not understand. And after all this he says he wants to come to my gym and fight. He denied fighting for money and wants to come here and fight for free (laughs). I think he’s confused, totally lost,” Cigano commented on The MMA Hour.

The two have faced each other before. In 2008, at UFC 90, an event that marked Cigano's debut in Ultimate, the Santa Catarina native landed a right uppercut and knocked out Werdum, who was more experienced and who after the fight did not renew with the UFC and went to Strikeforce After winning Fedor Emelianenko in the rival promotion, the gaucho returned to Ultimate and became champion in 2015, but lost the title last year. Cigano was also UFC champion, but hasn't fought for the belt since 2013.
