After provoking practically all the main fighters in the middleweight category, the Armenian Gegard Mousasi got a fight. He faces the former champion Chris Weidman at UFC 210, which will take place in Buffalo, New York, on April 8. The news was confirmed on Ultimate's own social media. It is the first fight confirmed for this event.
Weidman is coming off two defeats in Ultimate, first when he lost the belt to Luke Rockhold at the end of 2015, and almost a year later, when he was knocked out by Yoel romero at the historic UFC 205. Still, he didn't run away from Mousasi's challenge.
“As soon as I knew this guy was challenging me, wanting to face me, I thought “let’s give him what he wants.” Now he’s going to get a lot of beatings,” Weidman promised to the North American newspaper “Newsday”.
But the former champion will not have an easy task. Former owner of the Strikeforce light heavyweight belt, Mousasi has won four in a row, three of them by knockout. Among his latest victims, in fact, are three Brazilians: Thales leites, Thiago Marreta e Vitor belfort.
