The sentence was initially supposed to be 12 months, but the court reduced the sentence due to Nelson's good record. Furthermore, the sentence can be reduced to just six months and R$45. The condition for reduction is that the fighter must publicly apologize, during a UFC event, by December 31st.

With this, Nelson would be free to compete again in March 2017.

Remember the case

At the event, Nelson was angry with referee Big John McCarthy for taking so long to stop the dispute when he was hitting the Brazilian Antonio Pezão on the ground. In the summary of the fight, it is stated that 'Roy Nelson kicked Big John and made an obscene gesture towards the referee after the fight ends'.

The heavyweight went on to justify that, despite being irritated with the referee, he didn't attack him, but just pushed him.
