'UFC New York wouldn't happen without me', boasts McGregor

A few days before one of the most anticipated events in UFC history, Conor McGregor He didn't leave his usual hard work aside. The Irish featherweight champion said that the organization will only be able to hold a successful show in New York City (USA) thanks to his presence on the card.

Ultimate had been trying for several years to bring the Octagon to the city, but was running into legal barriers – MMA was prohibited by law there. However, as soon as the situation changed, UFC 205 was announced at Madison Square Garden, with McGregor in his main fight.

The Irishman left his modesty aside to comment on the situation. “I control all of this. I control New York. First of all, I am the reason we are here. I am the reason this event will happen. If I wasn't here, this ship would sink. Those are the facts,” he said, at a UFC conference to promote the show.

In a prominent position, McGregor hopes to take advantage of the situation. “Let's enjoy the moment, because it took a long time to get here. I’m looking to make the most of this experience,” he added.

In the main fight of UFC 205, McGregor will face Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt. If he wins, the Irishman will make history: he will become the first athlete to hold two belts simultaneously.
