Miocic was challenged by Jones shortly after UFC 203, an event in which he knocked out “Bones’s” training partner alistair overeem. The champion himself had already given a positive nod to the duel, but this time, he gave his opinion on the matter in more detail.
“There are many ways to look at this. I'm not good at this kind of thing. I'm just a fighter and they're the ones who need to say who I'm going to fight. So that's all I worry about. That's great. We would have a great fight, I think. This shows that I am doing something correctly because he wants to fight me”, commented Miocic, in an interview with the Australian podcast “Submission Radio”.
Furthermore, Miocic assured that he was not upset to see Jones instantly challenging him after his victory. “It doesn't bother me, honestly. I'll fight anyone they want me to fight. I am the champion and I will not choose who I fight. Whoever they want me to face, I'll face them. I don’t care,” he concluded.
Miocic won the UFC heavyweight belt in May this year, when he knocked out Fabricio Werdum in Curitiba (PR). In his first defense, the American survived a scare, but dispatched Overeem in the first round.
