Sonnen surprises, breaks with UFC and signs with Bellator

The North American, who hasn't fought since 2013, will work in the organization alongside names like Wanderlei Silva, Fedor Emelianenko and Tito Ortiz

Former bitter rival of Anderson Silva for the UFC middleweight belt, Chael Sonnen He's back in MMA, but in a new home. The North American broke with the main fight organization on the planet to sign a contract with Bellator.

The information was first released by the North American news agency “Associated Press”. Sonnen has not fought professional MMA since November 2013, still with the UFC, when he lost to Rashad evans by technical knockout.

After that, the loudmouth became involved in doping controversies, which canceled his participation in UFC 175, in 2014. At the time, Sonnen received a two-year suspension, which was completed in mid-2016.

“Chael is an incredible athlete who has competed at the highest level of the sport. I know he will continue to do that in Bellator. He has unfinished business with Wanderlei Silva, but also wants to fight guys like Tito Ortiz, Fedor Emelianenko e até Rory McDonald in the midrange. Sonnen, 39 years old, challenged for the UFC belt on three occasions: two of them against Anderson Silva for the middleweight title, another against Jon Jones for the light heavyweight belt. In all cases he ended up defeated. His professional MMA record is 28 wins, 14 losses and one draw.
