One of the greatest UFC champions of all time, Jon Jones continues with his undefined future within the organization. Even so, the current light heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier, gave his guess about his rival's next steps. For him, a fight between Jones and Anthony Johnson for the interim belt “doesn’t make any sense” for the 93 kg division.

The suggestion of a fight between Jones and Johnson was made by UFC president, Dana White. Nothing has been officially confirmed, but Cormier expressed his dissatisfaction with the proposal, especially given the fact that the fight would put the interim title at stake.

Jones won the interim light heavyweight belt in April, when he won Ovince St Preux at UFC 197. However, with his doping case days before UFC 200, his name no longer appears in the organization's official rankings. Therefore, Cormier believes that a duel between Jones and Johnson for the interim title is not the most logical fight to be married.

“One thing I completely disagree with is: why the hell would Jon still be interim champion? That doesn't make any sense. They shouldn't be fighting for an interim belt. I don't even know why he would still be interim champion. He was disqualified. Take the damn belt off him. This is idiotic”, said the fighter, in conversation with the North American radio program “Toe-2-Toe”.

What bothers Cormier most about the possible fight is the fact that he would put a belt on the line. “I hope Dana misspoke, because that doesn't make sense. They may even fight to determine who would be the next challenger, but for the interim belt? We would have an interim champion defending his belt while the real champion is waiting. It doesn’t make sense,” he insisted.

To date, Jones remains provisionally suspended for doping in July. His ultimate punishment will be soon, and the fighter is confident that he will escape more severe punishment.
